I've been really excited about taking a weekend off for the sole purpose of riding my bike for a while now. This weekend the opportunity finally came around and 7 friends and I rolled out from boulder for a pretty awesome weekend.
The route was to spend day 1 leaving from east campus, up past carter lake to camp in the Big Thompson Canyon. It was a great ride, although a bit hot. We got to the campsite just after lunchtime and Had a great afternoon sitting by (in) the river enjoying a mellow afternoon. We had hobo-meals for dinner, and got a good night sleep.
Day 2 we continued up the big thompson, through estes park, and out on Highway 7 towards the peak to peak highway. The scenery up here was amazing, with views of RMNP and the indian peaks. There was a considerable amount of climbing, and the day finished with a 5 mile dirt road into our campground near the town of gold hill. The night was awesome, with good conversations, burritos, margs, Smores, and a trip for cocktails at the Gold Hill Inn.
We slept out under the stars, and awoke to the indian peaks being illuminated by a beautiful sunrise. We packed up and headed back into town via sunshine canyon. It was great to finish with a mostly downhill route back into town 🙂
